Vectors & Transformations
The four transformations described completely, and the a-and-b vector algebra that ends most Higher papers.
Every lesson here ends the same way: learn it, teach it to an AI pupil who asks the awkward question, then defend it against the thinker with the strongest claim on it — free · no account needed.
2 modules of Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics (1 Higher Tier), each explained in full — what it is, why it works, when a question is asking for it, the mistakes that cost marks and worked examples — with five graded questions marked on your own device. Completely free.
The modules in Vectors & Transformations
Transformations
Translation, reflection, rotation and enlargement — performing each, and describing them COMPLETELY, because a partial description scores nothing. Four ways to move a shape: translation (slide by a column vector), reflection (mirror in a stated line), rotation (turn by an angle, in a direction, about a centre) and enlargement (scale by a factor from a centre — which can be fractional or negative).
When a question is asking for it: 'Describe fully the single transformation…' (name it, then list all its ingredients — and note 'single': answering with two combined transformations scores zero), and 'draw the image of…' questions. Learn Transformations →
Vectors (Higher Tier)
Column vectors, magnitude, and the a-and-b algebra of geometric proof — the topic that ends most Higher papers. Higher Tier. A vector has length and direction: as a column (3, −2) means 3 right, 2 down.
When a question is asking for it: Column-vector arithmetic and magnitudes; then the classic endgame question: a figure defined by a and b, asked to express some segment and prove two segments parallel or three points collinear. Learn Vectors →
The mistakes that cost marks in Vectors & Transformations
One from each module — the error examiners see most, with the module that puts it right.
- Describing a rotation without the centre (or direction). All three ingredients or no marks. (Transformations)
- AB read as A's position or as 'B to A'. It's the journey FROM A TO B — direction is part of the object. (Vectors)
Where Vectors & Transformations sits in the specification
Content area 5 of 4MA1, sub-topics 5.2, 5.1. Incandio is aligned to the specification and is not published by Pearson; the numbers are given so you can check every module against your own copy.
- 5.2 — Transformation geometry
- 5.1 — Vectors (Higher)
How Vectors & Transformations is mastered on Incandio
Every module above ends the same way: five questions that climb Grade 6 → 9+, then you teach the method back to Ember, an AI pupil who asks the awkward question, and defend it against the mathematician with the strongest claim on it. Exam Ready carries 18 authored exam-style questions across this strand, marked on Incandio.
